ERGØN & WØLF elevates META Landschafts Architektur GmbH urban design by intertwining natural elements with industrial heritage, creating a sanctuary where greenery and history converge in a breathtaking display of innovation.
In the Saint Louis Park project, META Landschafts Architektur GmbH transformed an industrial site into a vibrant, green urban space. This project focuses on our approach to highlighting the blend of historical elements with ecological design, creating unique, meaningful environments for the community.
Set against the backdrop of Basel’s evolving cityscape, the revitalized Saint Louis Park is a prime example of innovative urban regeneration. Through thoughtful design led by META‘s landscape architects, the park has been reimagined as a green haven, preserving the industrial soul of the area while welcoming the community into a rejuvenated, natural setting. The space now invites contemplation and connection. It balances the raw textures of its industrial heritage with the softness of natural landscapes. It also demonstrates that progress and respect for the past can coexist beautifully.
Adopting the organizational principles of large-scale industrial facilities has ensured that every element of the park’s layout contributes to a streamlined, purposeful experience. The walkways, the play areas, and even the placement of benches have been meticulously considered to optimize both form and function. This is a place designed not just for today but for tomorrow’s needs. It embraces the evolution of urban landscapes into multifunctional spaces that cater to the community’s growing aspirations.
Saint Louis Park is a harmonious blend of functionality and serenity. By transforming an industrial relic into a versatile urban greenspace that resonates with today’s lifestyles while preserving a hint of yesteryear’s charm, we combined our work with META Landschafts Architektur GmbH to bring this work to life.
The challenge was to infuse new life into the park’s historic fabric, ensuring that each design decision was purposeful and sensitive to the essence of the original industrial environment. Once META found the balance, our work began and we brought this vision to life through our detailed visualizations.
We meticulously crafted each aspect of Saint Louis Park to reflect the original vision. From the strategic placement of pathways to the integration of natural and architectural elements. We aimed in the creation of a space that is both reflective and forward-looking. Our goal was to take this vision and make it a reality with our work.
